Thursday 29th July at 7.30pm sees Episode One of The Wedding Show’s Destination series on the Foxtel Aurora Channel.
Tune in as Kate O’Shea leaves Hamilton Island to board the ‘Sea Eagle’ on a forty-five minute journey over to the stunning Hayman Island. Along the way she learns from Captain Ken all about the hardships of working on the Great Barrier Reef – with days off that are full of snorkeling, fishing and beautiful sunsets!
Arriving at Hayman, Kate is greeted by Monique Grant the resorts Public Relation’s Manager who takes her on a fun filled tour of Australia’s top holiday destination. Since receiving the countries first five star title, the fifty year old resort has managed to keep up with its’ high set early standards, resulting in a perfect mix of adventure, class and relaxation. This place really does have it all, from sea kayaking to diving, sea planes to helicopter flights to the renowned Whitehaven Beach and for those that want to slow the pace down - a Brazilian massage in the resorts lush gardens over looking the sea may just about do it!
We all know that once the day is over and the dress has been worn, the lasting memories are the photos. We catch up with ‘Captured Art Photography’s’ Lex and Amelia and find out how they combine high fashion with the traditional to create photos that truly are individual pieces of art. They also talk Vanessa through the styles they offer and what to expect from their work. Look out for their hints and tips when it comes to picking your own photographer.
Join Bessie Bardot as she visits Australia’s most famous icon-The Sydney Opera House. Here she meets Natalie Zammit from ‘Opera Point Events’ and learns all about getting the reception just right. If you do choose to hold your wedding reception here, you’ll have the Harbor Bridge, The Opera House and Sydney Harbor all within sight and apparently it won’t cost you your first born! We learn how truly reasonable it can be, depending on whether you go for fairy lights or chandeliers, simple table pieces or the full effect. And they do half price venue hire in winter - amazing!
We then learn what a Masterchef would serve you up for your meal and find out that chicken or beef is off the menu-unless that beef comes in the form of veal Carpaccio! Matt Moran’s world famous ‘Aria Restaurant’ at Circular Quay has that extra special touch of class-something that Bessie learns when she catches up with Simon Sandall, one of Aria’s Head Chefs. He states that once you have picked a reception venue the next most important step is picking the food; after all it’s the one thing your guests will either rave or complain about - even if you are too stressed to eat anything! At ‘Opera Point Events’ you get to sit down with Simon and let him tempt you with an array of tastes, like Alaskan king crab and amazing desserts, which are sure to tempt you away from the usual ‘boring’ suspects!
We’re then back to Hayman where Kate finds out all about the Islands’ exclusive wedding locations. From the Stella Maris Chapel high in the hills with breath-taking sea and land views, to the Lilly Lagoon and Formal Gardens - perfect for that secluded wedding ceremony. And of course there are the fabulous beaches for that traditional Aussie wedding!
You’d be loathed to miss the Complete Wedding runway shoot at ‘The Ivy,’ located on George Street, Sydney. This one off event for The Wedding Show showcases new designs from some of Australia’s biggest designers - Carla Zampatti, Collette Dinnigan, Akira Isogowa, Lisa Ho and Toni Maticevski. These designers may not be firstly known for their bridal wear but with today’s brides choosing to go for that unique and different option, it definitely makes these the go to designers. Make sure to look out for the full length Carla Zimpatti gown, it will take your breath away ladies!
Bessie catches up with Brianna Ragel-editor in chief at Complete Wedding, and tells you why your wedding may be the only time in your life when you can justify that couture gown price tag!
When it comes to hair and make-up, most brides get lost in a cloud of hairspray and layers of foundation. Why not instead focus on what feels like you? Hair can be sleek and elegant without being able to carry a small child! If up do’s aren’t your thing, then go boho-loose, romantic curls are still a strong contender on the runways and are a great frame for your face. The girls at Toni and Guy suggest sticking with who you are and let your dress do the talking-less is more when it comes to hair. With make-up, some brides can get a little too obsessed with the dream of being ‘au naturel’ and instead of fresh and bright, look pale and washed out - remember white can be draining! So instead of going the other way and hiding underneath layers of foundation, follow Jo at Napoleon Perdis’ advice - go for defined eyes, dark lips and some cleverly applied base to the forehead, temples and cheek bones - this year it’s all about contouring!
Tune in next week as we follow our real-life couple Rob and Sharon in their dream destination wedding at Hayman’s Stella Maris Chapel seen through the creative eye of ‘Serendipity Photography.’ Also watch as Bessie catches up with Carla from ‘Elegant Invites,’ Hannah interviews Emilia Pannet from EP Entertainment on wedding music and talks hair and make-up tips with Yvette from Captivating Looks, while Hannah gets taken on a tour of Sydney’s Flower Markets by A and L’s Stefano Oliveri and gives you ideas on your own wedding flower arrangements.
